Pandora Press is an independent publisher focusing on scholarly and popular titles in Anabaptist Mennonite Studies and beyond.
Pandora Press is a proud sponsor of the Anabaptists and Philosophy Roundtable lecture series, which features scholars discussing Anabaptist life and thought in relation to philosophical themes, topics, and methods. The series is sponsored by the Doopsgezind Seminarium, the Biblical and Religious Studies Division of Fresno Pacific University, the Institute of Mennonite Studies, and Pandora Press. Our events typically include a paper presentation and respondent, followed by open discussion among participants. We hold events online three to four times per year.
On April 27, 2022, Maxwell Kennel (NOSM University/Pandora Press) gave a paper entitled “Anabaptism contra Philosophy: On Violence, Enmity, and Interdisciplinarity.” A response was provided by Christian Early (James Madison University).
In the first Anabaptists & Philosophy Roundtable, held on February 16, 2022, the philosopher Diane Enns (Ryerson University) gave a paper entitled “The Reluctant Mennonite: Reflections on an Ambiguous Inheritance,” with her colleague John Caruana (Ryerson University) providing a response.
Publications
The texts and responses from the first two events will appear in a special issue of the Conrad Grebel Review on Anabaptists and Philosophy (vol. 40, no. 2. Spring 2022, to be published in late 2023).
A relevant and recent contribution by Marius van Hoogstraten has also been published in the Mennonite Quarterly Review. See here for a PDF of the groundbreaking article, "Without Sovereign Guarantee: Reading Schleitheim on the Oath with Giorgio Agamben."
